Deli Mexicana in Germantown, TN
The owner of the Deli Mexicana, Jonathan Magallanes, talks about his restaurant and what makes it unique — primarily fresh food selected daily. We’ve been going here for several years and outside of Frontera in Chicago, this is our favorite Mexican restaurant. Three things that make it unique for me are:
- Rely on word of mouth, or essentially social networking to get the word out for their restaurant.
- Enthusiasm for quality food shown by both Jonathan and his dad, Pepe.
- Welcoming attitude; Jonathan knows my family by name and what our favorite dishes are!

Jonathan & Lynette
Those of us old enough to remember the hit TV show Cheers know the mantra of the show was that it was a bar where everyone knows your name. Well, perhaps the patrons don’t know my name, but Jonathan sure does and genuinely seems happy when we are there and we are treated as friends. Regardless of the business, it is rare to find such passion and zeal for excellence that Jonathan and Pepe show. I’m thrilled Memphis has a place like this and hope they have continued success.
I shot the video below on Feb 19, 2010 and it shows Jonathan talking about Deli Mexicana and their philosophy. It’s easy to see the passion for freshness and quality of food when you hear him talk. Watch it in 1080p HD for the best quality! Oh, and go see them at: 1215 S. Germantown Rd, Germantown, TN. Tell Jonathan that Dean sent you!

Starting our Cruise
Lynette & I have started our cruise on Royal Caribbean’s Freedom of the Seas ship. This is one massive boat! We checked in to our Jr. Suite #9348. Below are a couple photos of the room. We are really happy with the room and the size, which is about the same as a decent hotel room, except designed better. We even have a small walk-in closet with lots of shelves.
I’ll post a few more photos as I can.

Synchronized Segways at Epcot
Danielle & I went on a Segway tour at Epcot over New Years 2009. We started with an hour or so of training on how to use the Segway, then went out into Epcot’s World Showcase before it opened to the public. What a blast! Segways took a bit to get used to, then were surprisingly easier to maneuver. We had a great time. The video below was taken by the Disney tour guide, who was wonderful!

The Drowsy Chaperone
Lynette and I went to Savannah & Pickwick today to pay our repects at the funeral of Paul Callens. Tonight we are in box seats at the Orpheum to see The Drowsy Chaperone. Should be terrific! This is Nicholas and Danielle in the box.
