Newlywed Advice for Nathan & Megan

This is a short video showing given newlyweds Nathan & Megan advice on how to have a great marriage. Shot at the MN Landscape Arboretum on May 23, 2009. Make sure to watch this in the HD version to get the full impact!

View of St. John

Our cruise late June of this year included a stop at St. Thomas, where we took a side trip to St. John. I had about an hour to triage e-mails, which was good.

This photo was taken from a roadside stop in St. John, looking over a bay and up at some beautiful homes. The D300 was set at ISO 200 and the exposure was 1/250 second at f/11 at 200mm.

We really had a great time on this side trip from our cruise. We saw some of the most amazing beaches I’ve ever seen. If I’m ambitious, I’ll post a few more photos soon (whatever that means).

We were very happy we didn’t go on another side trip in St. Thomas. One of the trips went on an open bus tour that had an accident. Lots of injuries and the Freedom of the Seas was delayed from leaving the port in St. Thomas. Click here for the article in the USA Today about the accident.

Sailboats at Grand Harbor Marina

It had been quite a while since I had been back to Grand Harbor. The photo below was taken at Grand Harbor Marina in Pickwick, TN in mid-May 2009. Some when I have time (when would that be?) I’d like to put together a whole gallery of boat and marina photos — I have hundreds of them!sailboat.jpg

Starting our Cruise

Lynette & I have started our cruise on Royal Caribbean’s Freedom of the Seas ship. This is one massive boat! We checked in to our Jr. Suite #9348. Below are a couple photos of the room. We are really happy with the room and the size, which is about the same as a decent hotel room, except designed better. We even have a small walk-in closet with lots of shelves.

I’ll post a few more photos as I can.

Sedona – Day 2

We got up bright and early today to do a drive on the Schnebly Hill Road. This is a pretty tough road to navigate for passenger cars and we were grateful to have a 4-wheel drive SUV rental. The first stop made was at the Vista — the road was gated off beyond that point. Below is an HDR image taken from the Vista looking down to the Cow Pies butte and beyond.

Sedona – Day 1

Sedona, AZ has some of the most incredible views I’ve seen. The red rock really is amazing and the varying sun angles make the rocks look very different. This first view can be seen on Google Maps and was taken at 1/250 sec exposure at f8 on March 16, 2009. The focal length was 105 mm at ISO 200.

Phoenix Zoo

Sunday morning we went to the Phoenix Zoo. The image below is a flamingo taking a rest! I used the Nikon D300 with the fantastic Nikkor 70-200 VR. In case you’re a photo geek, I shoot in RAW and the exposure was 1/500 second at f/11. The “near” exact location can be seen in Google Maps. The geo-coding is thanks to the fantastic diGPS . Let me know what you think.

Superstition Mountain

Driving through the Superstition Mountains today, I tried doing some HDR photography. Only thing was it was windy AND I left the tripod in the rental car (I know, don’t ask). Thank goodness for fast shutter speed and a fast capture abilities of the D300. I used Photomatix Pro to slam together the RAW photos and do the tone mapping, then didn’t do anything else other than reduce the noise in Photoshop.

Synchronized Segways at Epcot

Danielle & I went on a Segway tour at Epcot over New Years 2009. We started with an hour or so of training on how to use the Segway, then went out into Epcot’s World Showcase before it opened to the public. What a blast! Segways took a bit to get used to, then were surprisingly easier to maneuver. We had a great time. The video below was taken by the Disney tour guide, who was wonderful!

Click on the HD button to see the best quality! (Sometimes you need to click on the play icon first, then the HD button appears on the YouTube video. Don’t ask me why, but it works.

The Drowsy Chaperone

Lynette and I went to Savannah & Pickwick today to pay our repects at the funeral of Paul Callens. Tonight we are in box seats at the Orpheum to see The Drowsy Chaperone. Should be terrific! This is Nicholas and Danielle in the box.
